Monteiro discusses National Plan for Shipments with CEOs of major British companies

Brasilia (12 August) - The Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), Armando Monteiro, met today with CEOs of major British companies in Brazil, such as Rolls Royce, Anglo American, British Airways, Shell and BP Biofuels. During the meeting, the minister took a message of confidence to the CEOs and said that the government works for the business environment improves and the resumption of economic growth.

Monteiro spoke to entrepreneurs about the insertion of Brazil in global value chains, cooperation projects in innovation and intellectual property and the National Export Plan. The UK is one of six European countries identified as priorities in the Plan, which aims to give new status to foreign trade and increase exports.

The meeting is strategic since the UK is the 4th largest foreign investor in Brazil with US $ 41.9 billion, equivalent to 7% of the total stock of foreign direct investment in the country.

In 2014, British companies imported $ 3.8 billion in Brazil and provided $ 3.2 billion in products to the Brazilian market, with a surplus of US $ 570 million to Brazil. The exchange has a high percentage of processed products: 60% of exports and 97% of imports. However, the two main products exported by Brazil to the UK are gold and iron ore.
