Suframa approves $ 651.9 million investment in industrial projects

The Board of Directors of the Manaus Free Zone Superintendency (CAS) approved on Thursday (25/7) 87 industrial projects totaling US $ 651,991 million in total investments in the first three years of operation of the production lines. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, and was attended by President Jair Bolsonaro - something that did not happen in ten years. The special secretary of Productivity, Employment and Competitiveness (Sepec), Carlos Da Costa, also attended the meeting.

26 implementation projects and 61 expansion, updating or diversification projects were approved. Together, they are expected to generate 3,415 new jobs and forecast revenue of $ 3.685 billion over the same period.

At the meeting, President Jair Bolsonaro highlighted the economic potentials of the Northern region. “We have everything to make this region an economic landmark of the country. We have a very rich area and no one else has what we have here, ”he said.

Minister Paulo Guedes recalled the importance of environmental preservation in the region. "We have to stimulate the development of the region and preserve the Amazon. We have resources in this region that no other country has: ore, gas, and especially biodiversity. We want to produce without deforestation," he said.

In his speech, the special secretary of Productivity, Employment and Competitiveness, Carlos Da Costa, highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Economy to simplify, reduce bureaucracy and streamline Suframa processes. According to him, Sepec's technical team has set goals and has been conducting debates to promote a sustainable work plan for the region. "We are working on improving investment processes so that Suframa has more autonomy and acts to make the region a nucleus for the development of new vectors and productive sectors, complementary to those already existing in the Free Zone," he explained.


The 287th Ordinary Meeting is the first of 2019 - as of the reformulation of the Council through Decree No. 9,912, of July 10th. Among the industrial implementation projects was approved the project of Yellow Industry and Trade Mobility Equipment LTDA to produce scooters and electric bicycles in the region, with total investment over US $ 12 million and expected to generate 206 jobs. Yellow is the largest scooter and electric bike rental service provider in Brazil.

Another highlight was the Amazon Plastic Company (EPA), which presented a project for the manufacture of plastic resins with a total investment of over US $ 50 million and the generation of 182 new jobs, consolidating the segment and the expansion of the productive chain of the state. In the expansion, diversification and upgrade projects, the proposals of Flex Import, Export, Industry and Commerce of Machines and Motors to expand modem manufacturing were highlighted, with a total investment of over US $ 12 million and generation of 94 stations. Amazon Plastic Products Industry Bridge, which presented a diversification project for the manufacture of plastic laminates, with a total investment of over US $ 30 million and the generation of 106 new jobs. Bridge's products use the regional raw material of andiroba oil, which benefits about 4,000 people in the interior municipalities of the Amazon.
